How Should You Prepare Your Migraine Treatment Plan Before Detox?
Bring a written record of your usual migraines and the treatments you actually use to your pre-admission clinical review. Ask for instructions about medication and arrival rather than assuming your usual treatment will continue unchanged. Do not stop or adjust prescribed treatment on your own.
Put your usual pattern and treatment on one page
You do not need a perfect headache diary. Start with what you know, and mark anything you are unsure about:

- Usual symptoms: Where the pain occurs, how often it happens, how long it lasts, and any accompanying symptoms you experience.
- Recent differences: What has changed in the headaches or in how well your usual treatment works.
- Personal triggers and helpful measures: Describe what you have noticed, rather than listing triggers that do not apply to you.
- Treatment history: What has helped, what has not, allergies or unwanted reactions, and your prescriber’s contact details.
For each treatment, record its name, strength, prescribed directions, actual use, and most recent dose. Include treatments taken regularly and those used only when symptoms occur, along with injections, nonprescription products, supplements, and other substances. Review medications to disclose before detox admission to check your list for omissions.
Get a clinical plan—not just packing instructions
Ask who will review your summary and whether your usual prescriber should be involved. Take these questions to that review:

- Are there potential interactions between my treatments and the proposed detox medications?
- What are my instructions for scheduled and as-needed doses before arrival?
- How should I report nausea or vomiting, including difficulty taking medicine?
- What arrangements can be confirmed for my known triggers, such as light or noise?
- Which medications, labeled containers, or prescribing records should I bring?
Permission to pack a medicine is not the same as clinical approval to use it during detox.
Keep changed headaches separate from the usual plan
Report a new, sudden, or unusually severe headache separately. Seek medical evaluation rather than assuming it is your familiar migraine or a withdrawal symptom. If you are already receiving care, bring symptoms and medication questions directly to your treating team.
