A Toothache Before Detox: Coordinate Dental Evaluation and Arrival
Contact a dentist about the toothache and tell detox admissions what is happening before you travel. Ask the dentist to assess the dental problem and the detox team to review how the findings affect admission. Do not assume dental treatment is available at the facility or independently postpone detox while waiting for an appointment.
If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, seek emergency help rather than waiting for a dental appointment or an admissions callback. For other dental symptoms, describe them to the dental office and ask how soon you should be evaluated.
Make one symptom and medication summary
Use the same information for both conversations so neither team has to rely on an incomplete account:

- Where the pain is, when it started, and whether it has changed.
- Any swelling, fever, or difficulty eating, drinking, or opening your mouth.
- Recent dental treatment and any unfinished treatment or follow-up appointment.
- Prescribed antibiotics and pain medicines, including names, doses, instructions, and the last dose taken.
- Other medicines, allergies, recent substance use, and any withdrawal symptoms.
Tell the dentist about the planned detox admission before discussing treatment or prescriptions. Ask for medication guidance from the treating professionals rather than selecting or changing treatment yourself. If withdrawal symptoms are developing, report those too and ask how both care needs should be addressed.
Turn the dental visit into a clear handoff
Request written findings, treatment instructions, medication details, and any follow-up recommendations. With your permission, ask how the dentist and detox clinician can exchange the relevant information.

Then ask admissions to confirm:
- Who reviews the dental information and whether further evaluation is needed before arrival.
- Whether the proposed dental treatment and medication plan can be coordinated with detox care.
- Who would arrange an outside appointment and transportation, and what charges you should confirm.
- Whether your planned arrival is confirmed or still awaiting review.
Separately, confirm which prescribed medications to bring. If screening identifies an unresolved concern, clarify the next evaluation and admission steps; do not treat completion of a dental visit as confirmation of detox admission.

For a nonemergency concern, call Summer House Detox Center at (800) 719-1090 and explain your symptoms. Ask: “Who should review my toothache, is dental evaluation needed before arrival, and how would an appointment or medication plan be coordinated with care at the Miami facility?”
